Student Ambassadors

Nervous about starting college? Student ambassadors are here to help.

Starting anything new can be a daunting and difficult experience. Moving away from home to a new town, whilst starting a new course can result in lots of questions.

Will I fit in? Am I going to make any friends? How will I know where to go? Will there be anyone to help me if something goes wrong?

That’s where RNC student ambassadors come in. Having someone who has been there and knows exactly what you are going through can really help, with many ambassadors having specialist personal experience skills.

Student ambassadors are trained to deal with a range of issues that they may encounter which includes things like:

safeguarding
exam stress
homesickness
finding new friends
engaging with other students

and much, much more to ensure you settle in as quickly as possible.

Other student ambassador duties

The initial focus for student ambassadors is to help and support new students as they settle in to College but other tasks given can vary dependent on individual areas of interest. However, in general, ambassadors are asked to:

attend a short training programme to prepare for the role
help out at the New Student Conference
meet and greet new students over the arrival week
help plan Induction Week
help with induction sessions, supporting staff and students
continue to support students into the first year of their studies
refer student mentees with particular issues to an appropriate member of staff
represent the College in a positive manner

If you choose to become a student ambassador, apart from feeling good about helping others, it will also provide a great opportunity to gain valuable transferable and employability skills.

Emmy

Hello, My Name is Emmy, I am currently studying A Level History, Grade 2 Extended Braille, and Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business.

In terms of hobbies, I enjoy singing, making media content for YouTube and TikTok. I also enjoy reading both fantasy and history books and Greek, Roman and Ancient World Mythology and legends. I also enjoy discussing facts and doing quizzes on Anatomy and Mythology.

In terms of specialisms, if you would like a relaxed and nerdy chat about an array of topics or a partner for a board game session. Then I would be happy to join in.

Reisha

My name is Reisha, and I am a second-year student at RNC. I am studying Health and Social Care, Braille - which is a language used by blind and visually impaired individuals to read and write - Psychology, and Business.

I am passionate about assisting others whenever possible. I have a particular interest in baking and cooking.

I am quite proficient in technology, so if students require assistance, I am more than happy to provide it in any way I can. In my free time, I enjoy socializing with friends and enjoying coffee.

Shamreaz

Hi, my name is Sham, I am a third year RNC student, and I'm currently studying a Foundation Diploma in Business, Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Level 3 Braille, and have gained a previous qualification, a Diploma in IT.

I have a major passion in sports, and partake in a variety of different VI sports within RNC including Blind Football (where I play for the RNC team, and recently have started training with the England team), Goalball, Cricket, and Judo.

My involvement within the Sports Academy and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) means that I am able to not only provide guidance to new students relating to sports, but also help them reach their full potential.

Outside sports, my other passions involve Harry Potter, and travelling. I love socialising, and doing my utmost to try to help the students of RNC in any way I can, whether that be academically, or socially.

Dom

Hello, my name is Dom. I am a fourth year student at RNC and I am from Cornwall. I have been a Student Ambassador since 2023/24, and I wanted to continue with this role because I have a passion for meeting new people and making them feel welcome to the RNC community.

I am a very sociable person, and I like to interact with new and current students to make sure that they are feeling well and happy. If anyone ever wants to come to me for a general chat then I will be always up for it,

I can also help with mobility as I have useful vision so if anyone ever wants to go for a walk around campus or outside of campus then I would be happy to help.

My hobbies include:

- listening to music
- hanging out with friends
- going for walks
- eating and trying new foods.

Catrin

Hi, my name is Catrin and I am a second year student from Cardiff. I am currently studying Level 3 Music Production, A Level Psychology and also the EPQ course. I am a member of the Sports Academy and play Goalball at an intermediate level.

My main interest is music and I am grade 8 level at playing the drums. I am happy to help and enjoy answering any questions. I am confidant and have a friendly personality so don’t be shy, come up and speak to me about anything as I am always happy to support.

Here at RNC we are all in the same boat and I am here to try and make your new experience here as comfortable as possible.
